Give way to negative thinking!
When I take a “health assessment” on my words, I learn that it's easy to let down my guard and allow my words to cross from gratitude to sometimes negativity or complaining. So, how do I combat that? Gratitude! Gratitude is the cure to complaining.
Today, I made a mental note to stop and stand still for ten seconds every time I catch myself complaining or about to complain. During those ten seconds, I decided to reevaluate and redirect my heart to thankfulness to combat critical thoughts. Thank goodness I didn't have many. But, the negative thoughts I had, I practiced surrendering those thoughts to God.
As I practice surrendering my negative thoughts, words, and complaints to God instead of allowing them to spill over onto those around me, God can redirect my thoughts, words, and actions to Him and His ability to work and move on my behalf. A grateful heart can be displayed in what I don’t say just as much as it’s seen in what I do say.
My prayer today, and in the future, is that my words will continue to usher in love, kindness, compassion, and empathy to those around me.
"Kind words are like honey - sweet to the soul and healthy for the body."~Proverbs 16:24
