Oh Frida

I don’t know if this quote is truly from Ms. Frida though she has been credited with it. What I can say is that everything about these words resonates with my soul.

Frida Kahlo told her husband, “I’m not asking you to kiss me, nor apologize to me when I think you’re wrong. I won’t even ask you to hug me when I need it most. I don’t ask you to tell me how beautiful I am, even if it’s a lie, nor write me anything beautiful. I won’t even ask you to call me to tell me how your day went, nor tell me you miss me. I won’t ask you to thank me for everything I do for you, nor to care about me when my soul is down, and of course, I won’t ask you to support me in my decisions. I won’t even ask you to listen to me when I have a thousand stories to tell you. I won’t ask you to do anything, not even be by my side forever. Because if I have to ask you, I don’t want it anymore.”

If I have to ask my mate for caring, apologies, compliments, encouragement, support, honesty, or anything that is simply common decency towards anyone that he claims to care about, then I no longer need him in my life! I can recall a time, long ago, when I was mistreated, disrespected, and abused. Thank God for personal growth, strength, and courage to stand up for oneself. Thank God for that I’ve healed through the trauma and for the beautiful human relations that I’ve shared since. Thank God for the wonderful humans that I continue to encounter who love me for me!

Love. Honor. Respect. –> Are the only things worth my time. Knowing my worth and value as a Queen is understated!
